CHESTER — The city recorded its first homicide of 2020 Thursday with the death of 44-year-old city resident Dwayne Smith.

Chester City police received a call of shots fired in the area of West 10th Street and Booth Street about 8:30 p.m., according to a release from Deputy Police Commissioner Steven Gretsky.

While en route, officers were advised by radio that a gunshot victim was in the rear of a residence in the 1000 Block of Booth Street. Officer Joshua DiSylvestro located Smith, who appeared to be suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the release.

Officers immediately began life saving efforts until Crozer-Chester Medical Center Paramedics arrived on scene and took over care, but Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
