RIDLEY TOWNSHIP — If the new leaders of the Ridley School Board have familiar names, it's not by accident.

At the recent reorganization of the Ridley School Board, Michael Capozzoli was re-elected president of the board for a 19th consecutive term. Beverly Kapanjie was re-elected vice president for a 13th consecutive term. Capozzoli and Kapanjie have served as school directors for 42 and 32 years, respectively.

"I would like to thank the board for their continued support and confidence," Capozzoli said. "I feel certain that we all share in the pride of serving on the Board of the Ridley School District and that we will work in the best interest of the children, residents, administrators, teachers, and all workers in the district."

Delaware County Common Pleas Judge Jack Whelan, a Ridley resident, did the honors at the reorganization meeting, administering the oath to those elected to the school board at the general election in November. Incumbents being sworn in were Cazpozzoli., Kapanjie and Christine McMenamin, and newly elected board members Christopher Lenton and Joseph Ward.

Reappointed as board secretary was Charles Maiers. John F.X. Reilly will continue to serve as board solicitor and Cynthia Cherakas will remain as treasurer. Francis Bascelli Jr., a retired township police officer, was appointed truancy officer for the district.

Attending his first meeting as a school director was Christopher Bryan, who was appointed to fill a vacancy on the board created by the resignation of Patrick Welsh, who resigned after 32 years of service because he moved from Ridley Park, one of the three municipalities comprising the Ridley School District.

Bryan, 40, lives in the Swarthmore postal section of the township. He is a financial adviser whose wife, Beth, is an elementary teacher in the Ridley district. He has four children who attend Ridley schools.
