What do you get when you have Bluegrass music in the barn, downhome-style barbecue on the farm, and hundreds of attendees with big hearts who believe in the mission and success rate of Cityteam Ministries in Chester?
The answer is over $250,000 raised in only a few hours, thanks to the generosity of Cityteam supporters who attended the Sunday afternoon Fifth Annual Bluegrass & BBQ fundraiser at Berwyn's Wind Hill Farm, the home of longtime Cityteam Chester supporters Bob and Carolyn Turner.
The fundraiser included a live auction, the screening of two short films about Cityteam shown during dinner, and live testimony from former clients who turned their lives around, thanks to the program and teamwork of staff, volunteers and supporters at Cityteam Ministries.
Longtime Cityteam supporter Theresa Murtagh served as the event’s auctioneer. A few Cityteam team members offered words about the program, saying the programs depend on the generosity and commitment of its volunteers and supporters
Those who spoke included Cityteam Executive Director Kwinn Tucker, Cityteam Director of Development Nancy Craskey, director of Cityteam’s men’s program, Raj Lewis, and Cityteam kitchen supervisor Dallas Searcy.
Cityteam administrators also spoke about the impact of donations, not only to the existing programs, but also toward making future Cityteam plans a reality. New programs for 2020 include a faith-based supportive housing and life skills program for women and children in crisis; mobile food markets, making healthy foods accessible to more people; and faith-based transitional housing for CityTeam Sober Living graduates. Craskey told those in attendance, that as Cityteam grows even more, offering more lasting solutions and meeting more needs, that “the generosity of supporters becomes more crucial than ever before.”
