Christiana Figueres ’79, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, will present a lecture, “The Anthropology of Climate Change” 1p.m., Friday (Sept. 28) in Science Center 101 at Swarthmore College. The event is free and open to the public.

Figueres was appointed to her U.N. post in 2010 by U.N. Secretary General Ban-ki Moon. She is also the founder of the non-profit Center for Sustainable Development of the Americas, where she served as director through 2003. From 1994-1996, she served as Director of the Technical Secretariat, Renewable Energy in the Americas.

In addition to her bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Swarthmore, Figueres holds a master’s degree in social anthropology from the London School of Economics and a certificate in Organizational Development from Georgetown University.
