car in shop

A Sharon Hill police car crashed into the Leo's Steak Shop Saturday night, causing the iconic cheesesteak eatery to close.

FOLCROFT— A cheesesteak landmark in Folcroft is closed after a police car drove into its storefront on Saturday evening.

Leo’s Steak Shop on the corner of Chester Pike and Burton Lane sustained some structural damage after a Sharon Hill patrol car, allegedly responding to a call, crashed into the building around 6 p.m. One witness said there was about a dozen employees and customers in the eatery when the police cruiser crashed into the building.

The police officer driving the patrol car was reportedly taken to a local hospital for evaluation. No other vehicles were involved in the accident and no other injuries were immediately reported.

Folcroft police did not have much information when approached at the scene around 8 p.m. as the scene was being cleaned up, and attempts to reach Sharon Hill police since Saturday have been unsuccessful.

Leo’s posted on their Facebook page Sunday night that the workspace is still functional and that they would be up and running within a few days. Customers are asked to check back daily for updates, “to keep you up to date on our progress as to when we can start taking orders and getting delicious steaks & hoagies back out to your home or office.”
