CHESTER — An early morning shooting Monday claimed the life of an unidentified man and left a woman in serious condition with gunshot wounds to her head and face, police reported.

Officers were called to the area of Sixth and Penn Streets at about 6:06 a.m. for a report of shots fired, according to a release from Chester City Police Captain James Chubb. The caller reported hearing three shots fired and a woman yelling.

Once on location, officers found the male victim lying on his back in the 100 block of West Sixth Street. He was unresponsive and appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound to the rear of his head, according to the release.

Paramedics from Crozer Chester Medical Center arrived and pronounced the victim deceased. It was the 10th homicide in the city this year.

The female victim was treated on the scene and transported to Crozer Chester Medical Center for further treatment, where she remained in critical condition Monday afternoon. Both victims’ were being withheld pending notification of family members.
