The Rose Tree Media School Board voted unanimously, Feb. 28, with members Peter Barry, Tracy Barusevicius and Elizabeth Schneider absent, to approve an $11, 375 contract with Villanova University for the 7p.m., June 6 Penncrest High School Commencement ceremony for the Class of 2013.
The contract allows Penncrest to use the Pavilion Arena and the Jake Nevin Field House floor area and stage for use to queue the graduates. The fee being charged includes an ambulance, events coordinator, custodial, staff, flowers, police and more.
The board also approved a three-year contract with Schoolwires, which provides the district's web-hosting services, and had to be approved before an E-Rate deadline of March 14, for $78,642. The district receives 40 percent funding for telecommunications through E-Rate. The contract will be $2,300 less than the previous one, since one of the products was removed due to lack of use.
The school board approved the retirement/resignation of the following employees: the retirement of Geralyn Mayernick, a Springton Lake Middle School English teacher, effective June 19, after 34 years; the resignation of Joyce Jeuell, Ed.D, supervisor of Elementary Special Education, effective April 30; the retirement of James Miller, who joined the transportation staff in 1999, effective March 22; the retirement of Audrey Saunders, a bus aide, effective June 30, after 20 years of service; the retirement of Benjamin Copple, bus driver, who joined the transportation staff in 2003, effective June 30; the retirement of Linda Cunningham, bus driver, effective June 30, after 40 years of service.
The board approved the hiring of: Marianne Spiotta, as a long-term substitute learning support teacher, effective Feb. 8, at the annual salary of $52,309, assigned to Media Elementary replacing Kim Peckman who is on leave; Christine Seeley, director of Title I Summer School at the annual salary of $3,200, and Joseph Doyle Jr., substitute bus aide.
The board approved the extension of employment for Shelly Bolinger at Rose Tree Elementary, Sara Reath of Glenwood Elementary and Patricia Tulskie of Indian Lane Elementary, interventionists, through April 5.

The board approved Penncrest High School Choir's trip to the Virginia International Music Festival April 25. The district is funding transportation costs.
The 22 Science Olympiad Team members will participate in the state tournament at Raystown Lake Juniata College, April 25 to 27. The district will fund the substitute costs and partial costs of transportation, hotel and meals, for a total of $3,800.
The board granted permission to offer an abroad trip to Madrid, Barcelona and Tavernes, Spain, for the Spanish Exchange program in March-April 2014. The approximate cost to the student is $3,500, and substitute fees could be between $1,020 and $2,142.
A new club was approved for Penncrest High School called the Improv Club. The faculty advisor for this club will be an unpaid volunteer
