UPPER PROVIDENCE — The driver of a dump truck was killed in what police are describing as a traffic mishap.
The driver of a tri-axle Mack dump truck was making a delivery of stone at a home on the 1200 hundred block of Hunt Club Lane on Friday about noon.
"He backed up the driveway and stopped due to the curve," said Upper Providence Police Chief David Montella. "He set the parking brake to talk to somebody who was expecting the stone to be delivered when the truck started rolling. He made an attempt to stop the truck or get back into the truck and as a result he suffered some crushing injuries and succumbed."
The truck ended up nose first in a small ravine at the bottom of the driveway.
Rose Tree, Media and Newtown Square fire companies responded to the call as did Delaware County HAZMAT crews to handle fuel spilling into the creek.
The truck weight rating is 73,280. Montella said the truck was pretty well loaded.
A neighbor said the family had recently moved into the home which sits at the top of a hill in the woods.
