An exhibition of original artwork by local artist Joan Sobel will be on display from Sept. 5 to 29 at Swarthmore Borough Hall, 121 Park Ave., Swarthmore.
The public is invited to the artist’s opening reception Friday, Sept. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Both the exhibit and the opening are free and open to the public.
Sobel began painting as an empty nester, taking lessons at local community art centers, along with countless hours of exploration.
“The work I produce is inspired by a love of nature and outdoor spaces,” she said. I find myself drawn to the colors I see when looking out the window. A painting evolves as color meets paper or canvas, free to change with each brush stroke. I begin without a real plan; the composition and colors on the palette guide me. No painting is complete until I feel its sense of balance and harmony.”
Exhibit hours are Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
The exhibit is sponsored by Swarthmore Friends of the Arts.
