The link between feelings and food is almost unbreakable, given our cultural norms. Food is central to times of celebration and to times of mourning. Birthday parties must have birthday cake; a good caterer is crucial for a successful wedding. Similarly, funerals are followed by wakes or oth…

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Delaware County partnered with local senior centers in the week preceding the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service to collect food for our less fortunate neighbors through RSVP’s annual “Feed-a-Neighbor” Food Drive.

In the Feb. 11 issue of the County Press, there was an article on the front page about the Newtown Square Comprehensive Plan meeting on Feb. 4. I would like to comment on a few statements from that article.

I grew up in Upper Darby, spent nine formative years on South Carol Boulevard. I graduated from Saint Laurence in 1981 and then spent three years at Archbishop Prendergast. We moved to Bucks County before my senior year so I ended up being a 1985 graduate from Villa Joseph Marie High School.…

This is the time of the year that I am thoroughly involved helping high school seniors with their required essays on college applications. Most are asked to tell about someone in their lives who has had a profound effect upon them; someone who has really made a positive difference.

My pop was a loyal patriot and lover of English. He came to this country as a young man and served in World War I. He had to return to his homeland to settle some real estate debacle and was then conscripted into the Italian army and served in Ethiopia. The Italian government held that once …

The formal diagnosis came when I was 60 years old. It came as no surprise - attention deficit, compounded by hyperactivity. I was one of the oldest subjects in an experimental program with Ritalin, but the drug made me even more hyper than I am and probably caused a minor heart attack.

I'll admit that at times I tend to be a little hard on teenagers, even my own bevy of four, but recently one of them allowed me to soften up a bit. The kid had all the stuff to play big time football in California, 350 yards and six touchdowns in one game. John Madden's son was his football …
